Honoring Patriots of the Raid on Fort William & Mary.

The New Hampshire Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NHSAR) held a special 250th Anniversary Commemoration of the December 1774 raid on Fort William & Mary with a grave marking ceremony honoring six Patriots who took part in that daring assault: John Langdon, Edward Hart , George Gains, Supply Clapp, John Fernald and Richard Champney.

The ceremony also featured the induction of new NHSAR members Timothy J. Billbrough and William B. Jennison, held at the gravesite of William Whipple, a distinguished New Hampshire signer of the Declaration of Independence.

The commemoration took place on September 13, 2025, at Old North Cemetery in Portsmouth, NH. Joining NHSAR in the tribute were representatives from the Portsmouth Cemetery Commission, the New Ranger Chapter of the NHSODAR, the Maine Society of the SAR, and the New Hampshire Children of the American Revolution, along with dignitaries from the New Hampshire State DAR. Many members of the public also gathered, drawn to the historic site, to honor the service and sacrifice of these local heroes of the American Revolution.
