Recipient of the Baron von Steuben Color Guard Medal
Guardsman Hans Jackson was awarded the Baron von Steuben Medal for Sustained Achievement in the NSSAR Color Guard on December 1, 2025. The medal was presented by New Hampshire Color Guard Commander Curtis Hermann during NHSAR’s annual George Washington’s Birthday Meeting held on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The von Steuben Medal is one of the SAR’s highest recognitions for Color Guard service. It is awarded to guardsmen who have participated in at least twenty-five national and/or district Color Guard events over five or more years following the receipt of their Silver Color Guard Medal. This award reflects long-term dedication, leadership, and continued commitment to honoring the legacy of American Revolutionary patriots.
A Distinguished Record of Service
Guardsman Hans Jackson achieved his Bronze Color Guard Medal on November 10, 2001 and his Silver Color Guard Medal on April 20, 2002. His dedication to honoring Revolutionary War patriots has continued for decades. In April 2024, he received the Patriot Grave Marking Medal in recognition of his role in marking more than 100 Revolutionary War patriot graves across multiple states – working alongside the SAR, DAR, and C.A.R.

A Leader in Building Regional Color Guard Tradition
In 1999, Jackson joined compatriots from Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island to form the New England Contingent – a regional Color Guard unit within the New England District made up of members from five states. This unit strengthened regional cooperation and increased Color Guard representation at major commemorative events.
Jackson served as Second in Command for several years, participating in a wide range of ceremonies and community programs throughout New England, helping promote Revolutionary War history and patriotic education. In the early 2000s, he also served as the NHSAR Color Guard Commander, guiding the state’s Color Guard through numerous public events and commemorations.
Representing New Hampshire Across the North East
Over the years, Guardsman Jackson has proudly represented the New Hampshire SAR at national and district events throughout:
RI, NH, MA, VT, ME, NY, CT, PA, NJ, MD, VA, and Washington, D.C.,
in addition to attending multiple National Congresses and Leadership Meetings.
He has taken part in major commemorative events including:
- The Patriots’ Day Parade in Concord, MA
- The Battle of Bunker Hill Ceremony in Charlestown, MA

He also participated in two long-distance historical marches:
- A 25-mile march tracing the Connecticut militia’s response to the Lexington Alarm
- A 13-mile march commemorating the capture of Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Point
Sharing Revolutionary History with the Public
Through his involvement in SAR and C.A.R. leadership, Guardsman Jackson has appeared in historical programming on:
- New Hampshire PBS
- Massachusetts PBS
- WMUR
- Discovery Channel – Unsolved History: The Boston Massacre
These programs have helped bring Revolutionary War history to wider audiences.
A Special Acknowledgment
This achievement would not have been possible without the encouragement and support of his wife, Trish Jackson, whose dedication and partnership exemplify the true spirit of service and patriotism that strengthens the SAR, DAR and C.A.R organizations.

Please join us in congratulating Guardsman Hans Jackson on this milestone achievement and in recognizing both Hans & Trish for their continued service and commitment to the New Hampshire SAR Color Guard and the ideals of the American Revolution.
