Honoring Moses Poor: Keeping His Legacy Alive.

Moses Poor, born March 10, 1742, in Newbury, Massachusetts, was the son of Enoch Poor and Bethia West. In 1776, he married Hannah Sinkler (St. Clair) and settled in Hampstead, New Hampshire. When the call to arms came, he served as as a private in the 1st New Hampshire Regiment under Colonel John Stark. He was killed in action on June 17, 1775, at the Battle of Bunker Hill.

In this presentation, NHSAR Compatriot Doug Wood offers a personal glimpse into Poor’s legacy through local lore and his own research. The cellar hole of Moses Poor’s home in Salem, NH – still preserved by descendants and local historians – stands as a tangible reminder of his sacrifice and a perfect setting to share his legacy.
